In 2013, ClarkDietrich–a manufacturer of non-structural steel studs–filed two suits several defendants in Butler County Common Pleas Court.
ClarkDietrich, a manufacturer of non-structural steel studs, filed lawsuits in 2013 alleging trade defamation and antitrust violations. The trade defamation case centered on claims that the Certified Steel Stud Association (CSSA) published defamatory articles about ClarkDietrich’s products. While the antitrust claims were dismissed, the defamation case resulted in a $47 million jury verdict against the defendants, including $43 million against CSSA. Subsequent litigation over fiduciary duty claims led to a reversal by the Ohio Supreme Court and a retrial. After years of legal battles, Taft successfully secured summary judgment for Chip Gardner, CEO of Ware Industries.
